WIP: Catfish Fisherman

I’ve been conceptualizing a scene featuring an anthro catfish, dressed as a Buddhist monk, fishing. But progress on all my projects is on hold because my computer’s CPU is on the verge of catching fire.

WIP: Fish Fisherman Fishes Man – Versions A & B

I had an idea. A weird, weird idea about an anthropomorphic fish fisherman fishing a man out of a lake or pond. Version A wasn’t landing right for me; the angle was too high for what I was aiming for, but I’ll probably make something of it, too. Version B has a maaaaan in it, being hooked by the fish. I’m liking how both of these have developed thus far.

Kabuki Kitsune – Revisit

A digital remastering of two traditional drawings featuring my original character, Murakami Momoko, a kitsune samurai, performing a kabuki pose. She is holding her peach blossom-themed spear vertically next to her and is wearing samurai armor with a blue top and a red bottom. She has a fox head and legs, furry hands, and three long tails curling behind her. She is standing on one leg with one hand outstretched. Across from her is a landscape scene with a stylized sakura tree and a rock. Grassy ground beneath both the landscape and Momoko is connected with a thin, looping strip of color. I revisited this piece to render shading on it.

If this tickles your fancy, I have put her up on Redbubble here: https://www.redbubble.com/people/sada-tainment/works/103187263-kabuki-kitsune-by-the-sakura

Tales of Momoko: Attack Sketches_01

A page of rough, work-in-progress sketches of my original character, a samurai kitsune name Murakami Momoko, performing a number of light attack animations.

These sketches are rough key frame ideas depicting my samurai kitsune performing light attacks with her spear, in preparation for actually animating her doing so in the game I’m working on. I think I’ll need to refine these poses a touch; make them more impactful.

Tales of Momoko: Jump Sketches

A page of rough, work-in-progress sketches of my original character, a samurai kitsune name Murakami Momoko, performing a jump.

While away from my desktop computer, I decided to do some art and sketching with traditional media: pens and pencils and paper and the like. I managed, like, a page and a half because I have severe executive dysfunction and staring blankly at nothing is a common pastime for me.

These sketches are rough key frame ideas depicting my samurai kitsune jumping and falling, in preparation for actually animating her doing so in the game I’m working on.

WIP: Drowning Depression

A work in progress illustration done in Clip Studio Paint; it depicts a person being dragged down into an ocean by an enormous brain chained to his leg. He is viewed from a dark room through an aquarium window.

I’ve been plugging away at this piece for a bit, but there’s still more to do. I intend to add silhouettes of unconcerned people walking in the aquarium in front.

I’ve been struggling with my depression and anxiety lately. It feels like my brain’s drowning me and the whole world is laughing. I know that’s not true, but it’s hard to get my racing mind to calm down.

WIP: Indivisible (August 2020)

indivisible_comp-WIP.jpg

I’m still working on this old piece from before Indivisible first released. There’s ten Incarnations to go and this is already WAY too busy. I’ll need to play about with it some more to make it less… overwhelming to look at. It probably doesn’t help that the sketches are multicolored.

Tales of Momoko: Spear, Name

momoko-nameSpearNotes.jpg

Some more character design work on my new original character, Momoko the kitsune Samurai. This sketch page has got a bit of everything: an armored outfit for her that I’ll need to refine, some spear concepts that are coming along, a simplified look for easier animating, and some notes on her name.

From what I, a half-Japanese man with only 2nd- and 3rd-hand knowledge of Japanese and Japanese culture, have researched: when kanji is used as part of a name or other word, it can generally be pronounced however you want it to be pronounced? I might be way off.

Tales of Momoko: Peach-fox

peach-fox.jpg

Here’s some more art of Momoko, my kitsune Samurai, cutting a peach with a spear. I did this in traditional media with pen and colored pencil. I did forget her gotdang fox tails, but that’s something easy to fix when I clean this digitally.

Character Design: Momoko

momoko concept page.jpg

A character design sketch page of a new character for a thing I’m working on. Momoko is a Samurai kitsune, which is why I’ve been drawing foxes so much recently. This is the first time I’ve ever drawn her, so I’m still working on what she looks like.

I’ve got to hand it to furries, though; they’ve got the proportions down pat.
