WIP: Skeledirge Karaoke

A work in progress illustration done in pen and pencil, scanned in using the CamScanner phone app; Skeledirge, a crocodile Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet, is reared up onto its hind legs with its customary fire erupting from the corners of its mouth. One foreleg is placed on its chest while its other grips its “microphone stand”, which is a bird-like flame. Both are singing, visualized as music notes

Released far too early as it was, I will say that Scarlet/Violet would have been the best mainline Pokémon games yet if not for The Struggles™. There were so many stellar new ‘mons, I actually struggled deciding on a team! For one: Skeledirge is super dope and I love it.

WIP: Frog Musketeer Pokémon

Scanned in using the CamScanner phone app, I was conceptualizing a regional variant of the Pokémon Greninja, but as a Grass type with a sword. I was thinking more of a tree frog vibe, but I wasn’t sure about the rest of its theming until partway through. I started theming it around a musketeer, so future renditions would probably feature a rapier, a better hat, and a tunic instead of a cape.

Pokémon: Dapper Volbeat and Scuffed Cherrim

A work in progress illustration done in pen and pencil, scanned in using the CamScanner phone app; it features the Pokémon Volbeat with a red bowtie, a tophat, and a cane. It’s cheerily dancing and winking at the viewer. It’s in its alternate (Shiny) palette.

I’m not sure why or how I got attached to Volbeat and Cherrim, of all Pokémon, but here we are. I made Volbeat a dapper little guy, but Cherrim turned out to be very difficult to draw, for how simple it is.

WIP: Zorua Naptime

A work in progress illustration done in pen and pencil, scanned in using the CamScanner phone app; it features both alternate forms of the Pokémon, Zorua, sleeping side by side. One is grey with a white scruff, tail, and hair with red accents. It is sleeping curled up, rightside up. The other is a dark purple with a darker purple scruff, also with red accents. It is sleeping on its back.

There are definitely things I need to revise here: the tail, scruff, and head… poof on Hisuian Zorua; move Unovan Zorua further up to simulate being behind its counterpart and maybe some ground and shadows to shore up the composition ; and Unovan Zorua’s whole mouth deal and the angle of the head-to-body suchlike. But it’s pretty good for a first run through.

Pokémon: Regional Variant Mareep Line

Here’s an idea that’s been percolating in my brain ever since regional variants were introduced: a Grass-type variant of the Mareep line, inspired by the Common Mullein plant that I frequently see around Colorado. This Mega Ampharos, to contrast the Dragon/Electric-type standard, is a Fairy/Grass-type.

I’m not particularly enthused by the Mareep and Flaaffy concepts, but the main genesis of this idea was replacing Ampharos’ tail with the Mullein; I threw its pre-evolutions together more as a service to that idea than anything else.
