Murakami Momoko is my original character: a kitsune raised by humans and trained as a samurai. I’m ever-so-slowly working on developing video game with her, so I figured that I should put together a proper character sheet to reference.
I recorded and timed myself drawing this, because I was thinking of doing commissions in spite of my severe anxiety. It took about 2.5 hours, though I think I’ll later revise the torso again.
While the art itself went smoothly, this video, on the other hand, was just the worst to make. OBS seemed to purport itself fine, but Corel VideoStudio 2021 flipped. out. trying to deal with the video files. The preview was out-of-sync and useless, but worse? The initial sped-up video file occasionally flickered to a different frame every couple of frames. It would have been an epileptic nightmare.
I’ve pretty much finished with this, methinks. All that’d be left would be shading, but shading is hard and I am tired and I have been looking at this for a long time.

While I was looking about for new spells for the warlock I’m playing in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with friends, I came across what seemed to be a kitsune-themed spell and was diverted onto the tangent of searching for the kitsune patron. There wasn’t one, which is its own separate rabbit hole of an idea, but I did discover the game rules for playing as a gun. Whereby this character was thought up.
Here are some work in progress character design sketches I did of this as-of-yet unnamed character. She starts out as a saloon/tavern-girl who shifts to bounty hunting after an immortal outlaw destroys the saloon she worked at and slaughtered her coworkers. But she fails to kill the outlaw at the end and, as she’s dying, pacts with the Banished Gunsmith to continue her crusade, albeit as a sentient gun.
I’m really loving where this character ended up, predicated solely on the character feature, “is a gun” as she was.
I’ve been doing some conceptualizing for the game that I’m definitely going to finish some time don’t worry about it. I’ve just about got the spear to look the way I want; it probably needs a few tweaks, but I’ll cross that bridge when it comes. I also did some sketches of my OC, Momoko, to parse how she’ll move about in game a little bit.
This sketch page has more notes for my game along with a decent sketch of my OC, Momoko the kitsune samurai. The UI is coming along, conceptually, so I’ve turned to gameplay now: specifically, defending.
My research indicates that the Japanese didn’t “wield” shields in the European sense; rather, they “wore” or carried and deployed them, which meant their hands were free for weapons that required two hands.
Some more character design work on my new original character, Momoko the kitsune Samurai. This sketch page has got a bit of everything: an armored outfit for her that I’ll need to refine, some spear concepts that are coming along, a simplified look for easier animating, and some notes on her name.
From what I, a half-Japanese man with only 2nd- and 3rd-hand knowledge of Japanese and Japanese culture, have researched: when kanji is used as part of a name or other word, it can generally be pronounced however you want it to be pronounced? I might be way off.
I hear that this past month was #Mermay in the art community. While I don’t have a mermaid, I do have my OC Morritriole, an alien that looks like a hybrid of a shark and a weasel. They’re having a relaxing time at the beach, eating some fish.
I’ve been part of a West Marches/Dungeons and Dragons campaign with my OC, Bravo, for the past time. She’s a Warlock with a cat-like familiar and just recently got a magic rock that orbits her head, leading to this little comic wherein cats and small, flying objects don’t mix.
I had spent way too long on this already when I decided to throw some shading on; they might be nonsense shadows, but they’re there.
Well, this is finally starting to come together. It’s a comic about my OC whom I am using in a Dungeons and Dragons / West Marches campaign. It’s about small objects orbiting your head and the cats that attack small objects orbiting your head.
Since I’ve been working on this for too long, mostly because I frequently stare blankly into eternity all day, I’m just going to slap together the outside real fast and then try to figure out what shadows are. Also, Krita isn’t able to save this as a Photoshop document anymore? That’s annoying.
I don’t what it is, but I’ve just been debilitatingly exhausted as of late. I’ve got a bunch of sketches to clean up and compilations to finish sketching but I just want to sleep all the time instead.
To that end, I felt it was appropriate to finish my original character, Jasmine “Jazz” Harper, having a sleepy cup of coffee and that mug doesn’t look right, does it? Whatever.
