WIP: Shinto Shrine with Shih Tzus

A work in progress illustration done in pen and pencil, scanned in using the CamScanner phone app; a shinto shrine courtyard with two Japanese-style buildings on the left, a large sakura tree in the center with a torii gate set before it, and a large Japanese-style gate on the right with a komainu statue visible beyond it. A dense forest with green-leaved trees can be seen beyond the wall in the back. Two anthropomorphized Shih Tzu dogs are walking up the path leading from the gate to the buildings, playing with a ring. A third Shih Tzu stands before the building, waiting for them.

There’s a number of things I’d change to shore this piece up: the composition itself is a little weak and some positions need tweaking, the gate’s roof flummoxed me wholly, and it’s missing elements that I either forgot about or passed on, considering the scale I was working with and my shaky hands.

I have a Ko-fi:: https://ko-fi.com/sadayoshientertainment :: and a Redbubble for if you want my non-fanart on your stuff:: https://redbubble.com/people/sada-tainment
This isn’t on my Redbubble yet, because I still need to finish it, but there’s other things.

Sketch Page: Foliage Friends

Here’s a few plant fellas for the game that I’m totally still working on don’t worry about it it’s fine. One’s a tortoise of currently indeterminate composition and the other’s a fairy with a cornucopia.

For lesser plant enemies to get got, I came up with the veggie sprites. I considered consolidating everything into my preexisting character, Coby the corgi-tree, but the sprites wouldn’t be thematically consistent for him.

I’ve also kinda gotten attached to the tortoise and fairy. They’re neat.

Sketch Page: Calcium Crew

So, I’ve been sitting on some sketches for a while for no particular reason. This one has a bunch of skeleton studies of sorts on it. There’s: a dog druid, I guess; a crow plague doctor/shadow monster; and a bull cyborg. I did some turn-arounds of the skulls, but I clearly don’t quite understand pelvises yet.

These are character concepts for the game I’m still totally working on (I opened it up and stared at it all day a couple of days ago and everything!). The problem: filling levels with Pokémon-able enemies without having to flesh out each and every one as full characters. The solution: some enemies, like the Calcium Crew, fold into an overarching character that uses them, like a necromancer.

Indivisible (WIP)

I started this big ol’ piece a while back and then stopped working on it until recently because I have a nightmare brain. And, speaking of nightmares, I’m just now realizing that this thing is a compositional nightmare because I didn’t plan it in the slightest. I’m just kind of tossing characters at it and seeing what sticks.

I intend to get all the Incarnations in here, so I might have to get creative. Or bigger. It’s good practice with proportions and poses, though.

Yamper Pride

I drew the new corgi Pokémon, Yamper, because it is a precious bean. And then I gave it some flags just for kicks: the gay pride flag and the asexual flag.

Starfall Dungeon – Voyager & Coby

Here’s a couple pictures of Coby and Voyager just hanging out. Tree-dogs and Space-cats chilling together, mass hysteria.

Starfall Dungeon – Coby

Coby is a good boy.

Folklore says that the markings on corgis are caused by the saddles that the fey use to ride them. So I took my limited knowledge of fey sensibilities and applied that to an anthropomorphized corgi. The tree growing out of his back can change genus, shape, and size to provide a variety of effects. And, while Voyager maintains an intelligence similar to that of a Palico from Monster Hunter, Coby features intelligence equal to humans and vocabulary to match. His devotion to nature has made him many enemies.

For Starfall Dungeon, Coby features many abilities that allow him to function in a variety of roles, similarly to Voyager. His skills are based on significant trees in the world, such as the Kongeegen oak, the Centurion eucalyptus, and the Del Norte Titan redwood. His basic attack, Cloud 9 Boxing, is named after a type of dogwood.
